About Us

The first musical evenings took place at the Professors’ Club in 2003. The new concert project was called ‘Professors’ Wednesdays’ and has become an integral part of cultural life at the university.

Over the period we have tried out various forms of cultural activities. But the main thing remained unchanged – the remarkable musical events, organized as part of Professors’ Wednesdays for more than a decade. Our gatherings now take place not only at the Professors’ Club, but also at the HSE Cultural Centre.

Some of the best Russian classical musicians have performed at our club over the past ten years, including pianists Alexey Nabiulin and Ekaterina Mechetina, The Glinka State String Quartet and the Wind Quintet of the Russian National Orchestra, singer Albina Shagimuratova, violinist and button accordionist Yury Medyanik, guitarists Dmitry Illarionov and Artem Dervoed.

At Professors’ Wednesdays we have broadened our musical horizons. We’ve welcomed ballad singers (Yuly Kim, Alexander Gorodnitsky, Sergey Nikitin) and world-renowned jazz musicians (Daniil Kramer, Andrey Kondakov, Roman Miroshnichenko). Our exclusive quests include folklore musician Sergey Starostin and percussionist Mario Caldararu, early music ensemble Drolls, and Piazzolla Studio the best Russian performers of Astor Piazzolla’s music.

Our concerts take place not only on Wednesdays: musicians’ tour schedules sometimes force us to change our plans. But the name of the project – Professors’ Wednesdays – remains unchanged, as does the high quality of musicians we attract as guests of the Higher School of Economics.

Entry is free for everyone – students, lecturers and all university staff. If you want to invite one of your friends or family to a concert, please register your guest. Information on registration appears in the concert announcements on the website.

We are always happy to welcome you!
